Varsity Football at 7:00 PM

The Tigers opened up their 2010 season on a great note last Friday by defeating the Chiefs of Carlisle by a score of 45-37.  The game was marked by high tempo offensive play from both teams and some big plays made on the defensive side of the ball.

The offensive line led by Ben Johnson, Cody Day, John Lee, Colby Hunt, Jackson Sullivan, Naquian Skinner, and Cody Paige all made a great debut for the Tigers by helping the offense compile nearly 400 yards of offense on the ground and in the air!  Six tigers were able to see the end zone through offensive play.  Norman Jones led offensive attack with 2 rushing touchdowns and 1 passing by linking up with Matt Tugwell for a score.  Running Backs Charles Arnold, Jordan Williams, and Zach Snider each had 1 rushing touchdown in the contest and all ran the ball well.  The receiving corps was led by Matt Tugwell, Avery Johnson, and JD Misenheimer as they all made solid contributions to the offensive side of the ball.  Great job offense!

The defense made some great plays throughout the contest and earned 5 turnovers.  Hilson Atkins led the turnover attack with a pick six for 60 yards into the end zone.  Charlie Ridings and Norman Jones also earned interceptions during the contest.  Avery Johnson and Ben Johnson both picked up two fumbles recoveries as well.  Tackling leaders in the game were Avery Johnson, Zach Stott, Jonathan Lee, Hilson Atkins, and Marcus Chase.  Avery Johnson, Zach Stott, and Ben Johnson also led the defensive attack by compiling several sacks in the game.

The special teams played outstanding as kicker Brandon Beavers was able to earn the Tigers three extra points in the contest in his debut for the team.  Additionally, JD Misenheimer ran the ball in outstanding fashion as a kick returner and nearly earned a touchdown due to his efforts and solid blocking from Jordan Williams and the rest of the return team.  Cody Paige also made a great play on an onside kick late in the game to secure possession for the offense.

Overall, the team improves to 1-0 and is off to a very positive start and looking to improve for next week’s contest as they play at Blue Ridge on Saturday, September 11th at 2:00 pm.  Go Tigers!
