COVID-19 Update: Campus Closure Plan

Dear Parents, Families, Faculty, Staff, and Cadets,

I wanted to provide you the current plan for the Academy in response to the COVID-19 situation.

As you are likely now aware, today around 2pm, the Virginia Governor mandated that all K-12 educational institutions in the state of Virginia close for a minimum of two weeks commencing on March 16th.

We are here to support all families as we implement this mandate. Our current plan is summarized below:

  • 16-20 March: Cadet homework week; homework will be assigned on Monday by faculty
  • 20-29 March: Spring Break
  • 30 Mar: Remote classes begin

The Academic Dean will provide details for the activities outlined above via separate correspondence.

Cadets may depart campus beginning today, Friday, March 13 using our normal pass request and sign out procedures. Cadets are expected to take with them all necessary materials to fulfill academic requirements.

We understand that it may take several days for cadets to depart campus, and have services and programs in place for students who need to remain on campus until their originally planned Spring Break departure.

If for some reason, you feel it is in the best interest of your cadet for him to remain at Hargrave, please coordinate that request through the military department. Please understand that upon your cadet’s departure from campus, he will not be allowed back until campus reopens at a yet to be determined date. We will monitor the situation and provide regular updates as things unfold. When a decision is made for cadets to return to campus, we will ensure at least a week’s notice is given.

We appreciate your assistance and patience as we continue to address a dynamic situation. As always, our focus remains the health and safety of all cadets while ensuring they meet their full academic requirements for the school year.

Sincerely,
Michael Brown
President, Hargrave Military Academy
