We are now getting into the heaviest part of flu season; however, we are thankful that the flu has not yet affected our school. We have seen an increase in the number of colds among the Cadets. We are seeing colds that affect both the upper and lower respiratory tract causing sore throat, fatigue, nasal congestion, cough, and occasionally low-grade fever as well.
The nurses have been encouraging the Cadets to wash their hands frequently and to clean their rooms and work areas often. Hand hygiene is the easiest and most effective way to prevent the spread of viruses such as the common cold and flu. We appreciate the parents who have kept their Cadet home when they do not feel well or have a fever. This may help to prevent further spread among the Cadets. Let's do all we can to keep our Cadets healthy and productive during this time of the year!
Elizabeth graduated from Danville Community College with an Associates of Science in Nursing then went on to finish her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Western Governors University.
She loves all the opportunities that nursing has given her, including the ability to volunteer in medical missions. She served for 8 months with Mercy Ships, an organization that offers free surgeries to the people of West Africa. Her adventures led her back to her hometown of Chatham where she began working as a school nurse at Hargrave.
