Hargrave is excited to introduce that Ms. Mackenzie Ritchie is joining the Hargrave team as our new Chief Development Officer. She comes from a background in military boarding schools and Christian based education.
“What drew me to Hargrave was the focus on the spiritual development of young men.”
As our new CDO, Mackenzie is excited to meet the Hargrave Family. “Giving is such a joyful experience. The happiness that comes from helping others is so unique.”
This is her first week at Hargrave but already Mackenzie has a goal. She wants everyone to know the importance of each and every gift. “Every gift, regardless of amount, makes a difference. The sacrifice that is made impacts both the giver and the Academy. When I hear people wonder ‘if their gift really matters’, I want them to know that every gift is significant.
She and her husband Zach (and their two dogs) are still unpacking from their move from Indiana but are already falling in love with our great little town. “Chatham is so cute and welcoming. It feels like something out of a book or movie.”
Hargrave has a big family and there are plenty of people for Mackenzie to meet. Please get in touch, introduce yourself and welcome Mackenzie to the team.

Andrew is excited to be a part of such a great school and is ready for the tasks ahead.
He is no stranger to military boarding schools. Andrew is a 1998 graduate of Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington Missouri, where he attended for high school and junior college. "My brother had a friend in college who recommended Wentworth to my parents, apparently little Andrew reminded him of himself as a future cadet."
Andrew never expected to return to boarding schools but after he and his wife had begun their family, Andrew rediscovered the magic of what a school like Hargrave can do for a young man.
In his journey to Chatham, Andrew has been a teacher, coach, TAC, marketing director and admissions director at five other military boarding schools. As a coach, his military drill team was nationally ranked and four of his cadets went on to be members of the West Point Drill Team.
Andrew and Jennifer are enjoying living in bucolic Chatham with their two children and are very proud to be members of the Hargrave family.
On Saturday the families of Captain Lynn, Mr. Eberly and Mr. Erickson took a group of Cadets to the Triangle Rock Club Indoor Rock Climbing Gym in Morrisville, NC. The gym is one of 5 rock climbing gyms owned and operated by Hargrave Alumni Andrew Kratz. It was a fantastic day for the Cadets who... more
During Homecoming, one of the highlights for the alumni (and most of the Cadets) is a formal room inspection. This not only allows the alumni to see their old room and reminisce, but also gives our Cadets a chance to show off their military academy skills, compete against each other and to make... more
Captain Reich joined our CIS department this year as a social studies teacher. Previously he taught, coached and was a building officer at a military boarding school in Pennsylvania.
Following in his parents' and grandfather's footsteps, he entered into education as well. "It is the family... more

Thoughtful use of self-knowledge allows a Cadet to make better choices in considering future plans. The goal of this process should be to find... more
First, I'd like to thank all of the Cadets who came for the first couple of rounds of wrestling. It was fun to hear a collective cheer for wins, the pained "ooh" for impressive slams and general support for our team. Many of you were reminded of the level of combat each wrestler prepares for and... more
