Cadet Kevin White has been a Hargrave student since the 8th grade. Now in his senior year, he has received appointments and acceptances to both the United States Military Academy (West Point) and The United States Naval Academy. Our Hargrave Family could not be more proud of him!
He recently completed a preview weekend in Annapolis where he was "the most aggressive high schooler there. Many were terrified to be away from home and have people tell you what to do. I was ready for it." Hargrave did not prepare him for everything though. "Jeans were on the packing list and I had to go buy some."
White wants to make a career of the Marine Corps and become an Intelligence Officer. That is a long way from being a 7th grader with subpar grades and little direction.
While at Hargrave, Cadet White competed for the Varsity Track, Swimming, Wrestling and Football Teams and has been a member of the Chess, Speech and Badminton Clubs. He is also very proud of his Eye of the Tiger badge.
He wishes that everyone knew that Hargrave helps you to learn how to deal with life's conflicts. "You really learn patience and how to work with others."
"Go Navy, Beat Army!"
Andrew is excited to be a part of such a great school and is ready for the tasks ahead.
He is no stranger to military boarding schools. Andrew is a 1998 graduate of Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington Missouri, where he attended for high school and junior college. "My brother had a friend in college who recommended Wentworth to my parents, apparently little Andrew reminded him of himself as a future cadet."
Andrew never expected to return to boarding schools but after he and his wife had begun their family, Andrew rediscovered the magic of what a school like Hargrave can do for a young man.
In his journey to Chatham, Andrew has been a teacher, coach, TAC, marketing director and admissions director at five other military boarding schools. As a coach, his military drill team was nationally ranked and four of his cadets went on to be members of the West Point Drill Team.
Andrew and Jennifer are enjoying living in bucolic Chatham with their two children and are very proud to be members of the Hargrave family.
Using social media as a method of communication, I was able to share the Hargrave experience with family, friends, current and prospective Cadets, and alumni. Recently, I have posted on our Instagram Story "Cadet Life: An Instagram Journey" to involve our audience in a unique experience: for alumni,... more
