My name is John H. Dixon, Major – USAF (Ret). I was raised in Newport News, Virginia. At Virginia Military Institute, I earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering. I completed an M.S. in aviation management/aerospace science at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Florida). I am a graduate of the United States Air Force Squadron Officer School, the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the USAF Command and Staff program. I served in the USAF for 24 years in a variety of roles: B-52G navigator, instructor navigator, radar navigator, general facilities engineer, pavements engineer, staff civil engineering officer, and weapons controller.
After retiring from the military, I worked in the private sector as a highway construction project manager before entering the education field. I have worked in both public and private schools, spending the last 7 years at a boys boarding school teaching mathematics and science.
I have been hired to teach mathematics at HMA, and am hoping to share my experience as a high school coach in basketball, football, and baseball.
My wife Patricia, who was originally from Manchester, Maryland, and I, live at Cherry Point on Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County, Virginia, and we have five children, John, Mary, Nicole, Nathan, and Robert; 4 grandchildren, and two dogs.
