SGM Roark retired after serving 31 years in the US Army he is originally from Halifax, VA were his parents Claude and Gayle still live today. He enlisted in the Army in 1989 at the age of 17 as a 19 Delta Cavalry Scout attending OSUT (One Station Unit Training) at Fort Knox Kentucky.
Through the years, SGM Roark served in almost all enlisted positions in operational Armor and Infantry units as his career progressed. His career culminated with his last assignment as Command Sergeant Major, 10th Mountain Division (Lite), and Fort Drum, NY. He has two operational tours to Iraq and two to Afghanistan, along with multiple training rotations around the world.
SGM Roark completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College and his Master’s Degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University.
SGM Roark is married to his wife, Deanna Marie Roark. Together they have five children and three grandchildren. In SGM Roark’s own words, “Deanna and I are excited about moving to Chatham becoming part of the local community. I can think of no better post-military career opportunity than joining the Hargrave team. Teaching, coaching, and mentoring have always been passions of mine, helping the young men at Hargrave develop into leaders of character will be very rewarding and fulfilling.”
