Faith

As a school built on Christian principles, Hargrave’s staff and faculty strive to love and nurture you in a Christ-like manner. That means selflessly serving you, building relationships with you, caring for you regardless of your faith, and encouraging you to develop into a well-rounded, productive member of your community. Our Corps of Cadets is made up of young men from diverse walks of life, experiences, and faith traditions.

While Hargrave is a Baptist-affiliated institution, the faith pillar is designed to meet your needs regardless of your background or perspective on faith and spirituality. We believe faith is intrinsically connected to virtues, morality, and ethics. We will guide you in growing into a spiritually and ethically mature individual.

The Faith Pillar equips you with essential tools for spiritual growth and leadership:

  • Chapel Messages: Regular chapel services encourage you to integrate your faith into your daily life.
  • Devotion Time: Structured devotion periods help you incorporate spiritual growth into your daily routine.
  • Church Visits: Opportunities to visit local churches expose you to diverse faith communities, enhancing your spiritual development and community engagement.
  • Role Models: Faculty and staff demonstrate and share their faith, serving as role models for you throughout your time here.
  • Bible Survey Class: This course provides an overview of Scripture, fostering an appreciation for its importance and relevance.
  • Chaplain Support: The chaplain offers mentorship, counseling, and discipleship, guiding you on your faith journey.
  • Spiritual Emphasis: Guest speakers from various backgrounds minister to you, enriching your spiritual experience.

You’ll attend chapel twice weekly, where you’ll sing hymns and contemporary Christian worship music and hear a message from either the chaplain or an invited guest speaker. These chapel messages are grounded in Christian Scripture and emphasize the character traits we teach daily. You’ll receive a personal Bible upon matriculation.

Hargrave requires that you complete a one-semester Bible Survey course. This class serves as an introduction to the Christian faith and demonstrates that regardless of your faith background, the Bible can be used as an instrument to guide your life and help you grow into an individual of character.
