Hargrave Pool — Onishi-Davenport Aquatics Center

Our local community is welcome to swim and dive in our Olympic-sized swimming pool measuring 50 meters by 25 yards, which holds approximately 1,110,000 gallons of water!

  • The Onishi-Davenport Aquatic Center (ODAC) is known as one of the fastest pools in VA with some swimmers qualifying for the Olympic Trials while competing in our pool!
  • Our depth ranges from 4.5 feet to 16 feet with two standing platforms in the shallow end.
  • The pool is grounded which means the ODAC does not need to close during inclement weather.
  • The ODAC provides US Coast Guard approved lifejackets in limited sizes; different age appropriate water toys; and qualified lifeguards during pool public hours.
  • The water temperature is kept between 82-84 degrees.

Aquatics Center Status

Patron, staff, cadet, and facility users’ safety are at the forethought of our minds during this change in the mask policy. We have taken into account all recommendations and current local, state and federal guidelines and we have decided that all patrons, staff, cadets, and facility users are still required to wear face masks at this time while using the pool.

These are the reasons why:

  1. Not all staff are fully vaccinated and their safety is important so they can perform their job of providing you with a safe and comfortable environment in which to swim.
  2. We are unable to prove that individuals are fully vaccinated because it would be breaking the law through HIPAA if we even ask if someone is vaccinated.
  3. This is a private pool as part of a private school on private property and it is the school President’s decision to ensure that all visitors, cadets, patrons, staff and other users are in a safe environment.

If you have any questions, concerns and/or suggestions, please contact the Aquatics Director.

  • Everyone over 5 years old must wear a mask at all times.
  • Everyone must complete all COVID and Membership paperwork before using the facilities. These can be found under our Forms page.
  • Everyone must maintain 10-foot social distancing, including in the water, on the bleachers, and in the locker rooms.
  • Mandatory Temperature Checks to be conducted upon entry. Anyone outside of the required 93-100° F temperature will be asked to leave for the safety of the other patrons.
  • No more than 25 spectators on the deck at any one time.

Maximum occupancy:

  • Vestibule: 1 person
  • Lobby: 5 people
  • Female Locker Room: 5 people (open swim); 2 people (swim meets)
  • Male Locker Room: 5 people (open swim); 2 people (swim meets)

Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we continue to adjust to the COVID restrictions. Please contact the Aquatics Director (amanda.weishaar@hargrave.edu) for any questions.

The VA governor has announced that VA will move to Phase 3 starting July 1, 2020. Therefore, the ODAC are updating their policies in accordance with the COVID guidelines. These will come into effect Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

Differences between Phase 2 and Phase 3:

  • Patrons are not required to sign up to utilize the facilities as occupancy has increased to 75%;
  • Open swim is open;
  • Locker Rooms will be open for changing and restrooms only (no showering).

Phase 3 guidelines staying the same:

  • Everyone over 10 years old must wear a mask while in the facility, until entering the water. No mask. No entry. No exceptions;
  • Everyone must complete all COVID and membership paperwork before using the facilities;
  • Everyone must maintain 10 feet social distancing, including in the water, on the bleachers and in the locker rooms;
  • There will be no showers available;
  • Private swimming lessons will continue.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we continue to adjust to the COVID restrictions. Please contact the Aquatics Director (amanda.weishaar@hargrave.edu) for any questions.
