On November 11-13, 2011, the Hargrave Aquatics club swimming team traveled to Virginia Tech to participate in the HOKI A/BB/B/C Thanksgiving Invitational. Over one thousand swimmers participated in the meet. Club swimming teams from Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Pennsylvania participated.
“Last night the Hargrave Tigershark’s came back from Virginia Tech Invitational Swimming meet where over 1,000 swimmers participated from five different states such as Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. It was a very successful meet and our swimmers demonstrated excellent performance before the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Coach Larry Simonov, Hargrave’s varsity and USA Swimming team coach. “In addition, our swimmers qualified for three relays for state championship for 200y Freestyle, 200y Individual Medley (IM) and 400y Freestyle. We look forward to new achievements in the future from these boys. If you see these Tigershark swimmers please congratulate them for their hard work!”
The competition was fierce and we rose to the occasion as a team. We returned to Hargrave with a large number of personal best times, as well as qualifing three relays for varsity swimming states this year.
Being so early in the season this is a great accomplishment for our swimmers. With the improvement we have seen in these last couple of weeks, many members of the swim team have a good shot at qualifying for individual events for the state championships this year. The accomplishments of our swimmers are a good gift to their parents as well as Hargrave as we move into Thanksgiving break.
Go Hargrave TigerSharks!
