Building on a long tradition of elite basketball, Hargrave is expanding elite high school level programs in several additional sports.
“Hargrave athletes have been graduating into the Division I college and professional ranks for many years. Our opportunity is to reach more boys and young men who can benefit from the Hargrave experience, while training under some of the most accomplished coaches in their sport,” said Sloan Gibson, Hargrave’s President. “This isn’t a new direction for us but instead builds on our well-established reputation as a Christian, college prep leadership academy with an elite sports dimension.”
Coaching announcements are expected soon in fencing and baseball, with later announcements anticipated in swimming, soccer, and lacrosse. All these programs will be high school level programs rather than the post-graduate level of our elite basketball program, which will continue to compete nationally.
Just as Hargrave’s top basketball program has strengthened our varsity, JV, and middle school programs, we expect these elite programs to have a positive impact on all levels within the respective sport. The Hargrave experience has four pillars: Academics, Character, Faith, and Athletics. These elite sports programs will help strengthen our athletics pillar to the benefit of all our students, while athletes in the elite programs will have the same experience as their peers in the other three pillars.
Hargrave’s elite programs will be characterized by the exceptional qualifications and experience of our coaches, the ability and potential of the athletes attracted to the program, the caliber and affiliation of our competition, and the facilities to support the programs. We are fortunate to have strong athletic facilities, including an Olympic-sized pool, 3 indoor gymnasiums, an extensive weight room, and a baseball complex, which is planned for expansion. We expect to complete a new fencing facility within the coming weeks, made possible by generous donors.
Further announcements regarding specific sports and coaching appointments will be released in the coming weeks.
