Hargrave Announces National Search for Head Football Coach

Hargrave is launching a national search for a new Head Football Coach to lead the program as the school makes strategic investments in its elite sports programs.

Josh Cothran, Hargrave class of 1998, has led the program for the past four years, achieving solid progress in many program dimensions. “I’m grateful I had the opportunity to coach football at the school I love,” said Cothran. “Hargrave shaped who I am, and being able to give back has been an honor.”

Cothran will continue to focus on his primary duties as College Counselor. “Hargrave is fortunate to have Josh heading up our college counseling role, which is so vital to our students and their families,” said Sloan Gibson, Hargrave’s President. “We are grateful to Josh for his leadership of the football program and the progress of Hargrave Football under his direction. We are taking fresh looks at many of our sports programs and making strong investments where we believe we have the chance to field strong, competitive teams that invite more boys to participate,” he added.

Hargrave has a strong tradition in football, having fielded post graduate teams for many years that saw players move on to the college and professional ranks. As NCAA rules changed over the years, Hargrave transitioned from a PG level program to the high school level, where the school’s focus will remain.

“As in all of our athletic programs, our objective here isn’t just to develop good football players. We seek to build leaders of character prepared for success in life through all four of our pillars: Academics, Character and Leadership, Faith, and Athletics. We have always been a Christian, college prep leadership academy with an elite sports dimension. That’s exactly what we will continue to be,” said Gibson.
