Hargrave Establishes Young Life Chapter On Campus

Hargrave Military Academy is proud to announce the launch of its on-campus Young Life chapter. Young Life is a non-denominational Christian organization operating in all 50 states and 109 countries, focused on introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith through relationship-based ministry. By bringing Young Life directly to campus, cadets can now fully participate in this relationship-based ministry without the logistical hurdles that previously limited their involvement in the regional chapter.

Thanks to a generous donor, Hargrave was able to fund a full-time Young Life position, and after an extensive search, Hargrave appointed Darius Jennings as its Young Life Associate. Jennings will lead weekly Young Life Club meetings and Campaigners (small-group Bible studies) for cadets, providing spiritual support and engagement beyond regularly scheduled chapel activities and Bible classes. He’ll meet cadets where they are, in the barracks, at lunch tables, during recreation time, building authentic relationships through genuine conversations and shared activities.

“Young Life gives our cadets another way to explore and strengthen their faith through relationship-based ministry,” said Hargrave President Sloan Gibson. “Darius brings energy and authenticity that resonates with young men seeking real connections and spiritual growth.”

The Hargrave Young Life chapter would not have been possible without the close collaboration of Ben Paris, Area Director for Pittsylvania County Young Life, and a former Hargrave athletic director and teacher. “We are so excited to bring Darius to campus,” said Paris. “Young Life is about building true and authentic relationships, and we know that Darius is up to that challenge. We are excited to partner with the Academy as we share the gospel truth.”

Jennings has extensive experience supporting young men. He’s served as both coach and mentor, helping students navigate academic challenges while developing character and life skills. His commitment to being present for students makes him ideally suited for Young Life’s relationship-based ministry.

Jennings launched the HMAYoungLife Instagram page on November 11. Follow the page for updates on Young Life student engagement, activities, and upcoming events.
