Piers McGinn to Revive Hargrave Lacrosse

Hargrave Military Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Piers McGinn as Head Lacrosse Coach, marking the return of Tigers Lacrosse to campus after a five-year hiatus. The program, which last competed in 2020, will resume competition in the spring of 2026.

“We are delighted to welcome Piers to the Hargrave family! His background, experience, and high energy set the stage for an exciting future for lacrosse at Hargrave. He will be working to not only bring lacrosse back but also to build the kind of exceptional competitive program that will attract great players and families and deliver a great team experience. This is one more example of our long-term commitment to strong competitive sports,” noted Sloan Gibson, Hargrave’s President.

McGinn brings a unique combination of playing experience, coaching credentials, and analytical expertise to the position. A goalkeeper who competed across multiple levels of collegiate lacrosse, including NCAA Division I at NJIT, NCAA Division II at Seton Hill University, and JUCO at the Community College of Baltimore County-Essex Campus; he understands the diverse pathways available to student-athletes and the development required at each level.

Currently serving as Co-Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Virginia Tech’s MCLA Division II program, McGinn has implemented data-driven performance-tracking and player-evaluation systems while fostering accountability and leadership development. He also serves as Youth Director and Analytics Lead for 460 Lacrosse, a regional travel organization with more than 200 players, overseeing programming, operations, and strategic growth initiatives.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead Hargrave lacrosse,” said McGinn. “Hargrave offers a rare environment where structure, leadership, and high-level athletic development coexist. My vision is to build a program driven by standards, accountability, and daily investment — one that challenges cadets every day and prepares them to compete at a high level while developing the discipline, confidence, and self-identity that define a Hargrave Man.”

Hargrave Lacrosse built a proud tradition over the years, claiming seven Patriot League championships and earning recognition as a premier military school lacrosse program in the southeast. The Tigers were known for an up-tempo style of play and for a culture rooted in family, commitment, teamwork, selflessness, and character—values that resonated with the Academy’s mission. With McGinn’s arrival, the program has an opportunity to build on this foundation and write its next chapter.

With McGinn at the helm, the Hargrave Lacrosse program will combine its championship tradition with modern approaches to player development, performance analysis, and recruiting. More information about the 2026 season, including scheduling and roster opportunities, will be announced in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please join us in welcoming Piers McGinn to the Hargrave family!
