Hot Bats on North Cross

Coach Brett Thomas

The Hargrave varsity baseball team took on the D3 number three team in the state North Cross yesterday afternoon here at Hargrave and won by the score of 11-2. It was never an issue who was the better team Monday evening as the Tigers continued their hot hitting and great pitching. These guys are getting things going and getting completely locked in both on offensive and on defensive at the right time. The guys have battled terrible weather and still continue to work extremely hard and stay focused through all the obstacles to achieve our goal of winning a championship everyday in practice and during games and it is starting to show its face and pay off at the right time.

Hargrave was lead offensively by player of the game and probably the hottest hitter in the state Cadet Riggs Jordan. Riggs was 4-4 with 2 runs scored, three doubles and three RBI’s Monday. Cadet Keegan Ferer continued his plate decipline and hot hitting as well going 4-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Cadet Braden Barnett finished 2-3, Cadet Darrell Smith finished 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI’s, Cadet Logan Barker was 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored and Cadet Kristian Ragland finished 2-4 with 2 RBI’s.

Cadet Brad Markiewicz fought through a few shaky innings getting great help defensively from his infielders and outfielders to come away with the win on the mound. Brad went six strong innings, striking out eight North Cross batters, allowing only one walk and four hits.

The Tigers are back in action Wednesday, traveling to take on Holy Cross for a 4:30pm game. We will be back at home Thursday for a huge game against Fork Union at 4:30pm. The guys enjoy and take note of each of you guys that come to the game to support them and they appreciate all the support as do I. We hope to see each of you on Thursday for what should be a heck of a ballgame.
