JV Basketball downed by LCA

Coach Joe Moran

Hargrave JV BasketballLast night the JV basketball team took on conference rival LCA at home.

The Tigers, slow to get started in our first two games, came out with much more intensity right from the start. Cadet Edwards hit two big three pointers in the first frame to keep the Tigers close. At the end of a quarter, the Tigers trailed by just three, 14-11.  The Tigers made some defensive adjustments in the second quarter and held LCA to just 7 points.  At the half, the Tigers trailed 21-20, but went to the locker room with a lot of confidence.

The third quarter was a defensive battle by both teams with LCA holding a slim 26-24 lead after three. The fourth quarter began with an small LCA spurt that put them ahead by 10. Although the Tigers fought valiantly to recover, LCA went 14/20 from the free-throw line to hold on for the victory. The Tigers were led in scoring by Cadet Edwards who hit five three pointers on his way to a 17 point night. Cadet Jacobs pitched in with 8 points for the Tigers. The JV squad hits the road on Saturday for a game against The Covenant School in Charlottesville before returning home for a Monday game against crosstown rival Chatham High. These guys always love seeing you all in the crowd when you can, it really helps their confidence when you are there.

The final score was Hargrave 38, LCA 49.
