JV Soccer Ties New Covenant

Bill Eberly

The JV Soccer team played its last game of the season last night against New Covenant on the Simpson Parade field.

They played New Covenant on their field for their 2nd game of the season and lost 6-2 so they knew this game was going to tell them how far they’ve come as a team.

The team came out strong, winning the time of possession decisively and contesting for every ball, but New Covenant was still able to put a ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 score late in the 1st half.  With minutes remaining in the half, sophomore Hosny Makhlouf, with an assist by Philip Atuonwu, shot a goal from 25 yards out to make it a 1-1 game and put the confidence back into the team that they needed.

The Tigers knew that New Covenant was going to come out strong in the 2nd half, but the defense never broke and the Tigers held them scoreless in the second half.  Despite some excellent shots from midfielders and forwards, the Tigers were also not able to add a goal before the end of the game.  The game ended in a 1-1 tie and showed the guys just how far they had come against a team they had lost to 6-2 earlier in the season.
