35th Annual Order of the Sabre Banquet
Hargrave’s annual Order of the Sabre Banquet was a resounding success, bringing together esteemed members of the Sabre Club to celebrate their unwavering support of the Academy. The event, held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina, was a testament to the power of philanthropy and the profound impact it has on the lives of Hargrave cadets.
The banquet’s atmosphere was one of camaraderie and appreciation, where guests mingled and engaged in meaningful conversations. The emcee, Mr. Mike Beck ’79, skillfully guided the evening’s program, ensuring a seamless blend of formal recognition and heartfelt expressions of gratitude.
The banquet concluded on a high note with a State of the Academy address from Hargrave President, Eric Peterson, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. It served as a reminder of the transformative power of education and the crucial role that donors play in shaping the lives of future leaders.

Clash of the Blades
Hargrave’s Fencing team participated in their first tournament of the season this past Saturday at Salem Academy. Despite a rough first match-up against the number one school in the state, the team caught the spectators and the other fencers by surprise with what they were capable of and ultimately came in third place, going undefeated against one of the schools!
Fencing Coach Julia Levigion stated, “Whenever someone was given feedback, they accepted it with grace and did their best to adjust. We are all excited to see what the team can accomplish this year.”

The Joy of Christian Service
Christian service is a profound expression of our faith at Hargrave. It’s about selflessly putting the needs of others before our own, just as Jesus did. In a world that often encourages self-centeredness, we are called to be different.
Service isn’t just about doing good deeds; it’s about doing them with a heart filled with love and humility. When we serve others in love, we reflect the character of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve. This kind of service brings joy and fulfillment, not only to those we serve but also to our own hearts.
As we continue our journey at Hargrave, we remember that acts of service, no matter how small, can have a significant impact. It could be helping a classmate with their studies, lending a listening ear to a friend in need, or participating in community service projects. By serving with a humble heart, we reflect the very essence of Christianity.
We encourage our cadets to think about how we can serve others in our daily lives. Whether in the dorm, on the sports field, or within the community, there are always opportunities to shine the light of Christ through our service. Our goal for them is to promote that joy that comes from selfless service and watch how it transforms not only the lives of those we serve but also our own hearts.
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
