Next-Gen Science at Hargrave

The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) recently installed a SMART Table at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham to give students a hands-on, memorable introduction to plant and computer science concepts. So far, students in multiple environmental science classes have conducted a simple, multi-week plant growth cycle and will examine the experiment data in the future. Europe – Summer 2025

Dear families,

We’re going on a WWII-focused tour of Western Europe in the Summer of 2025, and you’re invited! We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: CLICK HERE FOR INFO

When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure. In this info session, we’ll discuss:

-How this opportunity will benefit your student
-What we’ll see and do on our trip
-Everything that’s included in this experience
-How your child can earn academic credit
-How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
-How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period

There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!

Thank You,
Scott Roach
Social Studies Department Chair

A Wave of Success

Hargrave’s first swim meet of the season took place just before the Thanksgiving break, and the boys were primed and ready to go! Four swimmers qualified for states in individual events, the highest in five seasons (Stephen Yang ’24, John Classen ’25, Leon Qin ’25, and Zach Hall ’25). HMA had two divers who met the score requirements of a 6-dive meet to attend states (Patrick Souza ’25 and Alex Moore ’25).

Devotional

Leading through Christian Service

Leadership is often associated with authority and power, but the most outstanding leaders lead through Christian service. Jesus, the ultimate example of leadership, emphasized servanthood as the path to greatness. He came not to be served but to serve, and His life’s purpose was to give Himself as a ransom for many.

In our journey at Hargrave, we are preparing to be leaders of tomorrow in various capacities. Remember that authentic leadership is not about seeking recognition or control but serving and empowering others. It’s about putting the needs of our team, classmates, and community above our own.

As we take on leadership roles, we lead by example through our actions of humility, selflessness, and compassion. Be willing to go the extra mile to support and encourage those under our guidance. Our service-oriented leadership will inspire and foster a sense of unity and purpose.

Consider the words of Jesus as we lead: “Whoever wants to become great among we must be our servant.” True greatness lies in serving others, just as Christ served us. Our leadership, rooted in Christian service, will impact the lives of those we lead and leave a lasting legacy of love and humility.

“Whoever wants to become great among we must be our servant, and whoever wants to be first must be our slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28 (NIV)
