Europe – Summer 2025

We’re going on a WWII-focused tour of Western Europe in the Summer of 2025. When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.

Devotional

In the face of challenges, remember the words of Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” This verse encapsulates the essence of faith – it’s not about tangible evidence but rather a deep-seated conviction that fuels our actions and sustains our resolve.

The journey at Hargrave will undoubtedly present trials – academic, physical, and personal. Yet, it’s precisely in these moments that our cadet’s faith can shine brightest. The encouragement to trust in their abilities, lean on their fellow cadets for support, and hold fast to the principles instilled within them is key.

Faith is cultivated through community, through the bonds forged in the crucible of shared experiences. Lean on one another, uplift each other in times of need, and together, they’ll find strength beyond measure.

In closing, let these words inspire you: “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). May your journey be marked by steadfast faith, unwavering determination, and the courage to overcome every obstacle in your path.

-Michael Washington, Chaplain

Cardiovascular Testing for Cadets

Hargrave is taking an extra step to protect our students by hosting cardiovascular testing on campus. EKG, Echocardiogram, and Vascular Ultrasound testing will take place on campus on April 5th and April 6th.

Athletics Summary and Upcoming Contests

For some we have entered into the final 2 weeks of the winter season and this time becomes a test in perseverance, determination and commitment. It is an opportunity to test character and mental fortitude. A time to put teamwork to the test and to finish the season strong. Last week had some challenges and everyone had the ability to learn from all that was given – good and bad. The reflection time of the past weekend has passed and now it is time to move forward and remain consistent in our attitudes, training, and abilities and to finish just as positively as we began.

Recent Athletic Results

Middle School Basketball:

01/29/24 vs Bonner Middle @ HMA. This was to be a game that tested 2 undefeated programs of the season. It was a hard fought battle between 2 strong willed and talented teams but only one could prevail. Unfortunately it was not Hargrave. However, the boys learned that even undefeated programs must end, and it is how they bounce back that shows their true character

01/31/24 vs Dan River @ HMA. The boys took to the court with a fresh attitude and quickly settled into an easy rhythm. The teamwork was there as Hargrave won convincingly 45-28.

02/03/24 vs Westwood Middle @ HMA. For most of the game there was no more than 4 points between the teams. The lead swung back and forth constantly as both struggled to capitalize and extend their lead. It came down to the dying seconds. Westwood just had the edge and Hargrave lost only their second game of the season. Their record is still a huge accomplishment though!

JV Basketball:

02/02/24 vs The Covenant @ HMA. After a long break the boys were itching to get on the court for a game, and they worked hard before finally winning the game 50-46!

Varsity Basketball:

01/29/24 vs Oak Ridge Military Academy @ HMA. The battle of VA and NC military academies is always going to be close. Great teamwork gave Hargrave the win!

02/02/24 vs The Covenant @ HMA. The crowd was loud and the atmosphere was electric! With the strong support, the team dominated and Hargrave won 86-40!

Wrestling:

02/02/24 away at The Covenant School for the Regional Tournament. They had 2 games and they are getting so close to another match win! Just missed out 42-30 and 36-30.

We will transition to Spring Sports Monday February 12th. Two emails have been sent for the cadets to pick their spring sport.

Competitive Spring Sports – baseball, golf, tennis, track and field, and soccer

Non-competitive Spring Sports – football weight lifting/skills/drills, PYFP (Presidential Youth Fitness program), and weight lifting
