From the Summer School Coordinator:

Thank you for trusting us with your son during the Hargrave Summer Program. We will do everything we can to ensure that he has a positive experience during the Hargrave Summer Program, and we offer various engaging classes, sports, and weekend activities! If you are concerned about your son for any reason, or you need him to contact you, the first point of contact will be our Military Department, and you should receive an email from your son’s TAC Officer with that contact information. I will also be a point of contact between you and your son, and should the need arise, I can be contacted via email at janice.mclaughlin@hargrave.edu or by phone at (434) 432-2683 during business hours or (434) 907-1285 after-hours. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions or concerns!

With warmest regards,

Janice McLaughlin

Summer Classes Begin

Hargrave’s summer program is off to a good start. This summer, we’re offering classes such as Entrepreneurship, Leadership, STEM, and Computer Science, just to name a few. The teachers are well-prepared and are delivering their lessons effectively. The cadets are participating actively and showing enthusiasm throughout the day. Overall, it has been a productive and promising start to the program.

Faith Pillar Advisory Committee

Hargrave’s Chaplain, Michael Washington, recently established the Faith Pillar Advisory Committee (FPAC). This committee endeavors to increase the efficacy of the Faith Pillar in the lives of HMA cadets to improve interpersonal and spiritual relationships through discipleship. Comprised of multiple Hargrave employees and members of the local community, the FPAC strives to support the Hargrave Faith Pillar by providing input, ideas, and resources for special programs, as well as create connections with Hargrave cadets that increase their understanding of and desire to improve their faith.

Blake Bivens Pitching Clinic

Hargrave recently hosted two Blake Bivens Pitching Clinics. The participants ranged in age from 9-18 years old. Blake, a native of southern Virginia, graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, VA. Bivens was drafted to the Tampa Bay Rays as a round 4 pick in 2014. The main focus of these clinics was the foundation of pitching mechanics. Bivens also covered proper warm-up techniques, mound presence, and how to make adjustments on the field during games. The older participants had the opportunity to work with Rapsodo, a technology that provides advanced pitching analytics. Also taught during the clinics were proper run-down techniques, off-speed pitches, throwing fundamentals, and techniques for fielding ground balls. Hargrave was fortunate to have the opportunity to accommodate many young men, and we are equally lucky to have Blake on our staff.
