This fall, Hargrave is introducing a smarter, more intentional way to start each school day—one rooted in how boys learn best, and designed to equip students with the skills, structure, and confidence they need to thrive. We’re calling it the Lab Model.
Labs will initially feature a mix of familiar experiences, including STEM, the arts, leadership, athletics, and independent study. Over time, they’ll grow to include more diverse and targeted offerings aligned with student interests and real-world skill sets. Lab Blocks allow flexibility for academic support, advanced academic pursuits, such as AP and Dual Enrollment, as well as dedicated time for the physical development required of students with college-level athletic aspirations.
In its current form, the Lab Block supports:
- Hands-on learning across diverse disciplines
- Increased access to academic support services
- More intentional scheduling for student-athletes
- A smoother, more natural flow from morning to midday academics
This year’s schedule is the result of the diligent work of a cross-departmental team of faculty and staff who collaborated to make it possible—and it reflects our ongoing effort to listen to families and students while upholding Hargrave’s core values.
While the full vision of the Lab Model will continue to evolve in the semesters ahead, this year’s launch marks a purposeful first step toward reorienting the daily schedule to prioritize hands-on, focused learning at the start of the day.
