Resilient Effort Leads to Epic Comeback

Ben Veshi

Hargrave Military Academy stretched their win streak out to four games as they defeated Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach 79-72 at the Battle of the Beach presented by Beach Realty in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Tigers improved their record on the year to 8-1.

In a game that saw Christian Academy get out to a hot shooting start, Hargrave found themselves down 17-5 early. The Tigers’ situation continued to look bleak most of the first half as Christian Academy was in command at halftime, 45-31.

Christian Academy stretched their lead to as many as 17 points early in the second half before the Tigers began to pick up their intensity level. With great crowd support from the Hargrave faithful that made the trip to Myrtle Beach, the Tigers willed their way back into the game and trailed 54-47 heading into the final quarter of play.

A flurry of great plays, big time shots, and incredible defense put Hargrave in command with three minutes to go. The game was sealed by an NBA-esque block by Tre King ’18 and then a thunderous dunk on the offensive end which totally shifted the momentum in Hargrave’s favor. Finally, seven made free throws in the final minute that iced the victory for the Tigers. Hargrave never gave up on themselves and always felt that they had a chance to win the game, they proved it this afternoon.

David Garey ’17–24 points (8-11 FG), 3 rebounds, 5 steals
