Robert Bailey has been named Head Baseball Coach at Hargrave Military Academy. Bailey arrives in Chatham with over a decade of NCAA experience and a proven record of developing pitchers into professionals, running recruiting operations, and building competitive rosters.
Bailey holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Commerce from Hampden-Sydney College, where he was a team captain and a player in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. He is a longtime member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and holds Strength and Conditioning certifications, reflecting his commitment to developing his craft and his players.

His deep roots in Virginia baseball and his track record of elevating student-athletes make him an outstanding fit as we continue investing in competitive athletics at Hargrave.”
Bailey began his coaching career at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he spent two years as Pitching Coach and developed his first pitcher to reach the professional level. He then spent 13 seasons as Recruiting Coordinator and Pitching Coach at Hampden-Sydney College.
During his tenure at HSC, Bailey developed six All-Conference and All-State pitchers, two All-Region selections, and three pitchers who went on to sign professional contracts. He also served as Head Coach of the Seaside Steelheads in the BCBL Summer League, where two of his players advanced to professional baseball. His recruiting and camp experience is equally extensive, having instructed or directed showcases and youth camps at James Madison University, Virginia Military Institute, Hampden-Sydney College, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and across the state of Virginia.
