Tavin Lovan has officially ended his recruitment, signing a full scholarship with the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Tavin, a 6’4″ guard from Franklin, KY came to Hargrave having completed a historic career at Franklin-Simpson High, scoring nearly 3,000 points in his high school career (good for first all-time on the FSHS scoring list). Tavin set the prep world on fire this season as well, putting up gaudy numbers throughout his season with the Tigers.
Tavin averaged 20.5 points (2nd on the team), 9.7 rebounds (1st), 4.4 assists (2nd), and 2.8 steals (2nd) per game this season, including 14 double-doubles and 1 triple-double. Lovan also paced the team in EFG% and Efficiency Rating for the 2017-18 season. Tavin had a knack for playing his best games against the best competition, averaging 28.7 points and 12.8 rebounds in the 9 games he played against teams ranked in the top 10 nationally this season.
“We are going to miss Tavin dearly,” commented Head Postgraduate Coach Lee Martin. “His ability to shine when the lights were at their brightest was a direct reflection of his hard work and character behind the scenes. We always knew that Tavin was going to give us everything he had day-in and day-out. I truly believe that Tavin can play at any level- UAB just got a player that will be a staple in the lineup from day one, and will no doubt impact the program positively in every way.”
Lovan started all but one game this season when he was active, helping lead his team to a 33-4 record and the #4 national ranking in the final poll of the season.
