Tigers Roll to 13th Straight Win

Ben Veshi

In the final road regular season contest, the Hargrave Military Academy Tigers extended their winning streak to 13 games as they defeated Roanoke Catholic, 96-47, in VIC Conference action Thursday night. Hargrave moves to 22-3 overall, 11-0 in the VIC Conference.

Roanoke Catholic got out to a hot start and opened the game on a 10-6 run before Hargrave had a chance to get going. However, some great defense and some thunderous, rim-rocking dunks by DJ Myers energized the Tiger bench and propelled them to end the first quarter on a 25-6 run, claiming a 31-16 advantage. John Kirkpatrick and Kameron Ivory continued their best Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson impersonations by combining for 5 three pointers in the first half (7 total for the game), which allowed Hargrave to take a 49-25 lead into the half.

The Tigers’ strong defensive effort continued in the second half as they flustered the Celtics of Roanoke Catholic all night long, getting deflections, steals, and blocks throughout the entire game. Although there were strong individual contributions, this was a complete team effort (61% FG, 48 deflections, 33 forced turnovers) in the 96-47 win.

Notable Performances Include:
DJ Myers ’18–18 points (8-12 FG), 3 rebounds, 4 steals, 8 deflections
Kameron Ivory ’17–16 points (6-11 FG), 3 rebounds, 5 deflections
Tre King ’18–15 points (7-8 FG), 3 rebounds, 13 deflections

This game is also Senior Night for the Class of 2017 and the VIC Regular Season Championship is on the line. Senior Day festivities will begin at 5:30 PM with tip-off scheduled for 5:45 PM.
