Track Performs Well in Local Meet

The Tigers took to the track on Wednesday at Patrick County High School against 9 other local schools. The Tigers started the meet strong in the field events, with senior Andrew Scott ( Brooklyn, NY) throwing a personal best of 36 feet and 2 inches. In discus, junior Cameron Spangler (Wilmington, NC) and senior Abraham Frazier (Greensboro, NC) took 6th (93 feet 6 inches and half) and 7th (93 feet and 1 inch) respectively.

In the jumping events, junior Elyas Harris (Briarcliff, NY) took 1st in triple jump (34 feet and 10 inches) and 2nd in long jump (18 feet and 5 inches).  “Overall I was pleased with our guys in the field events as they went up against a very competitive field in all respective events,” stated Assistant Coach Jeremy Eubank.

In the running events, the Tigers had impressive runs in the 110 hurdles as Frazier took 3rd with a time of 20.05 seconds. Senior Joachin Taneus (Great Britain) took 2nd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15 minutes; 4 seconds behind the first place finisher. In addition, the 4×800 meter relay team made up of Jesse Vogg (Chatham, VA), senior Charles Massina (Togo), Gabriel Powers (Roswell, GA), and Taneus took 2nd place with a time of 9:29 minutes; 5 seconds behind Bassett High School. The team scored 53 points for the meet finishing 6th overall. “To finish in the middle of the pack and be competitive against a lot of locally talented teams was good to see,” stated Head Coach Aaron Marshall.

The Tigers will return to the track on Thursday of next week, where they will run at Altavista High School in Altavista, VA. Meet time will start at 4:30.
