Varsity Soccer vs. Galileo

Hargrave 7 – Galileo 0

Hargrave came away with another well-earned win on Monday as a five goal first half led them on their way to a 7-0 victory over the Galileo Falcons.

Junior forward Aaron Snell opened the scoring for the Tigers just four minutes into the match with a shot low and past the Falcon keeper at full-speed going forward from a Scott Dinius through-ball. Right winger Austin Koeneman was also credited with the assist on the Snell goal. Thirteen minutes later Snell would net his second on the evening in much the same manner as Dinius and fellow Captain Josh Splinter linked up for the assist to give the Tigers the 2-0 advantage. Nine minutes later Dinius would once again record the primary helper as he fed a crossed ball to the opposite post from deep within the right flank where it found left winger Tony Cain for the score. Less than two minutes later Edwin Choi would make good on his only shot of the game with a fantastic first-time hit from just inside the box from a Austin Newman through-ball. The Choi shot was taken off the bounce and continued to rise just enough over the Falcon keeper’s outstretched hands and into the roof of the net. Four minutes later Newman would finish off the first half scoring with a goal of his own from a free-kick blast from about 25 yards out. The Tiger defense held their opponent to 0 shots in the first half of play.

During the second half of action the Tigers were once again able to control most of the possession keeping the Falcons primarily on their defensive end. Eight minutes into the second period sophomore forward Dong Myung Eun would link up with junior defender Austin Hirschfield for the Tiger’s sixth. With 20 mintues remaining Senior Captain Nick Barr finished off the scoring for the Tigers with a break-away opportunity of his own from yet another well-timed through-ball out of the Tiger’s midfield; this time set-up by Splinter recording his second assist on the evening.

With 7-0 win the Tigers move to 9-0 overall, 4-0 in conference play with a tough conference match-up coming up with conference foe North Cross on Thursday.
