Varsity Soccer vs. George Washington HS

The Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team fell to 2-3 on the season with a loss to George Washington High School 0-2, on Tuesday.

Throughout the majority of the game the Tigers found themselves on the defensive side of the ball, and were able to generate only a few opportunities on goal. Although, despite not being at full strength, the Tigers put up a hard-fought effort to keep themselves competitive throughout the match.

The Tigers withstood the offensive pressure from GWHS throughout most of the first half with a strong defensive performance from Wes Shea, Charles Amos, Nick Wynne, TJ Johnson, and goalkeeper Garret Torney (12 saves). Although, GWHS continued to drive the ball at the Tiger defense, creating opportunity after opportunity, and would eventually break through with just over seven minutes remaining in the half. The goal came off of a corner kick, and was connected on with a header into the back of the net, and ending the first-half scoring with the Tigers down 0-1.

The second half began with much of the same, leaving the Tigers unable to create any offensive pressure. The Tigers fought hard to try and even the game up, but fell short with 2:30 remaining when GWHS went up 0-2.

Hargrave was outshot in the contest 16-2.

Hargrave Soccer (0-1 conference, 2-3 overall) will return to action on Thursday, April 14 to take on North Cross. Game time is 4:00pm at Hargrave.
