Hargrave 9 – Timberlake 0
The Tigers extended their unbeaten streak to 7-0 with an impressive overall 9 goal, 12 assist performance on Tuesday to grab the win against conference opponent Timberlake Christian, and move to 4-0 in conference play.
Captains Nick Barr and Scott Dinius led the way for the Tigers for a combined four goals and three assists as nine different players all recorded points on the day. Dinius opened the scoring for the Tigers in the tenth minute with a hit from just outside the 18 yard box from a Josh Splinter pass down the middle, and soon followed up with an assist of his own on Barr’s first three minutes later. Barr would tally his second goal on the evening not but two mintues following with a goal-line put-away from an Austin Koeneman pass from off the endline that appeared to be heading out, but was kept in by the right winger with a pass off the line to the front of the net for the Barr goal. The two goal output from Barr would be his 12th in seven games. Koeneman would continue with an outstanding performance from the wing as he would record the primary assist on the Tigers next three goals to finish with a four assist output. Left winger Tony Cain would get in on the scoring, to end the half, as he would finish off a Koeneman cross to the back post for the header, and the 4-0 halftime advantage.
The second half began in much of the same manner for the Tigers with several good scoring opportunities as they would extend their lead further with a three goal flurry in four minutes time. Sophomore forward Edwin Choi would finish off a Dinius through-ball, and Koeneman cross in the 55th minute with his first of two goals while two minutes later Koeneman would find his fourth assist for Dinius’ second goal on the evening. Choi would follow-up with his second less than two minutes later with a break-away score from a Tony Cain through-ball to give the Tigers the 7-0 lead. Ten minutes following the Choi goal forward Aaron Snell would give the Tigers their eighth from a perfectly worked give-and-go, at the top of the box, with fellow forward Nick Barr. Five minutes later junior midfielder Austin Newman, back from injury, put away the Tiger’s ninth, in his second game back, from a poorly cleared ball with a blast from just inside the box low and into the corner netting.
The Tiger defensive effort led by junior sweeper Austin Hirschfield performed superbly in the back. Senior Captain Josh Splinter, normally a right-wing player, complimented the defense nicely at the defensive midfield spot, and along with Hirschfield and fellow defenders Adam Crook and Andrew Shin only permitted two total shots to their opponent. Back-up goalkeeper Woo Jin, in for the sickly Nathan Bloom, recorded both saves to keep the opponent scoreless and secure the 9-0 win.
