The Hargrave men’s swimming team performed very well this weekend at the VSIS State Championship. Top Eight performances were turned in by James Eu in the 500 Free, finishing 7th and moving up eight spots from the previous year. Last year he went 5:23 at Paul VI. This year James went 5:09 and finished 7th overall. He had Hargrave’s highest finish in the meet.
Eu, along with Mike Wheeler, Jonathan Waltz, and Jarred Wood, also took 8th place in the 400 Free Relay. Eu took 11th in the 200 IM, while Waltz took 9th in the 200 Free with a lifetime best swim of 1:52.2. Waltz also took 11th in the 100 Free with a life time best time of 50.43. Eu, Waltz, Wheeler, and Wood also finished 9th in the 200 Free Relay.
As the season comes to a close, Hargrave looks to next year as all these outstanding swimmers return. The team is also looking to improve its numbers by enrolling a class of young talent equal to the swimmers that preformed so well this year, leaving the team to say “Wait till you see what we’ll do next year.”
2005/2006 currently has the makings of a second straight VIC Title and a Top 5 finish at states.
