On Saturday January 18th The wrestling team traveled to Charlotte Court House to compete in the Court House Classic Team duals.
The day started out with a three team pool tournament to see who advanced to the finals. Hargrave was pooled with Bruton High School, Colonial Heights High School and Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy.
Round one found us paired with Bruton High School. After 13 bouts Hargrave won 9 of the 13 with wins by Cadet Gray, Cadet Vaughan, Cadet Sackett, Cadet Lopes, Cadet Meyers, Cadet Gopalakrishna, Cadet McGrail, Cadet Rock, and Cadet Hylton. These wins gave the fighting Tigers a commanding win at 54 to 24.
Round two was a battle with Colonial Heights High School. Both schools did not have a lightweight wrestler so again there were 13 matches. Hargrave Picked up wins From Cadet Gray, Cadet Brantley, Cadet Lopes, Cadet Meyers, Cadet Slipp, Cadet McGrail, Cadet Rock and Cadet Hylton. These wins lead to a final score of 44 to 28
The Third Round was a forfeit win as SMLCA had cancelled earlier in the day.
So after the three rounds of Pool wrestling Hargrave stood atop the bracket with a 3 and 0 record.
On to the Bracket Rounds. First round of the elimination bracket saw Hargrave ready to scrap with the second place team from the other pool, Mecklenburg High School. This tilt started with consecutive wins by Cadet Vaughan, Cadet Sackett, Cadet Lopes and Cadet Meyers. The next three matches went to the Mecklenburg squad which brought the score to Hargrave 24 Mecklenburg 22. Hargrave then stepped it up and went on a 5 match win streak to bring the score to 54 -22, with wins by Cadet McGrail, Cadet Rock, Cadet Hylton, Cadet Gray and Cadet Brantley.
The Finals Here we Go. The Finals found a rematch between Hargrave and Colonial Heights for the trophy. This rumble started with two victories by Colonial to take a 12 to 0 lead. Hargrave fought back with two pins wins by Cadet Lopes and Cadet Gopalakrishna to even the score at 12. The next match was a win for Colonial height to move them ahead 18 to 12. Cadet Omar Robert then pinned the Colonial wrestler who had pinned him earlier in the day to bring Hargrave back to even. Cadet McGrail pinned his opponent and Cadet Rock battled to points loss to make the score 24 -22 Hargrave. Cadet Hylton, Cadet Gray and Cadet Brantley all collected wins to make the Final Score 39-28.
Your Hargrave Wrestling Tigers had won the Court House Classic Team Duals with a perfect 5-0 day.
The wins improved the overall record to 14 and 3 on the season.
