Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Hargrave Military Academy builds real self-confidence by teaching cadets how to defend themselves effectively, even against larger or stronger opponents, using technique and leverage rather than brute strength.

This dynamic martial art dramatically improves physical fitness—enhancing strength, flexibility, coordination, and cardiovascular health—while the constant problem-solving on the mat sharpens focus, patience, and strategic thinking. Most importantly for teens, BJJ provides a positive, supportive community and a healthy outlet for energy and emotions, helping reduce stress and anxiety while teaching respect, discipline, and resilience through the process of drilling, sparring, and occasionally tapping out and trying again.

About Our Instructor

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club is led by Jeremiah Bunker, Hargrave’s IT Director, who brings extensive experience and passion for the sport. Having previously owned and operated his own jiu-jitsu gym, Mr. Bunker combines his technical expertise in the martial art with a deep understanding of how to mentor young men in this challenging yet rewarding discipline.
