“One of the toughest tasks in the coaching business is to follow in the footsteps of a successful coach,” said Coach Tim Oditt, Hargrave’s Director of Athletics. “Coach Hamilton not only did this, but also put his own stamp on Hargrave’s Post-Graduate Basketball program. His team won the first 38 games of the year before suffering their only loss of the season in the National Championship game. Coach Hamilton’s ability to foster team work and effort defined his season. It is a privilege to award the O.B. Teague award to Coach A.W. Hamilton.”
Begun in 1999, the O.B. Teague Coach of the Year award is presented in memory of Mr. O.B. Teague, Jr., Hargrave Class of 1942, who was a former member of the Hargrave Board of Trustees and a loyal supporter of Hargrave athletics.
The award goes to the Hargrave coach considered by his peers as the school year’s most outstanding coach. The winner’s name is placed on a plaque with all former winners. This plaque is displayed in the Academy’s Primary athletic area. The O.B. Teague Coach of the Year award is a cash award, and is the single highest award a Hargrave employee can win for service to Hargrave athletics and its Cadets.
