2014 Meet the Tigers

2014 Meet the TigersHargrave hosts its 2014 ‘Meet the Tigers’ on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Academy’s Walter Davis Gymnasium. The event focuses on the history, current players and continued success of the Academy’s Postgraduate (PG) Basketball team. Two different opportunities will be presented during the event. They include:

Black and Orange Inter-squad Scrimmage. A scrimmage featuring the 2014-2015 Hargrave Postgraduate Basketball team will be held. The team will perform in a game that will headline some of the best rising student-athlete basketball talent in postgraduate baseketball. Team members include: Danjel Purifoy of Centerville, Alabama (committed to Auburn); Trey Grundy of Lexington, Kentucky (committed to UNC-Wilmington); Tyrone Taylor of Grandview, Missouri (committed to Wichita State); and Jon Davis of Ft. Washington, Maryland (pursued by Virginia Tech and other D1 programs). All 14 postgraduate players will showcase.

Retirement Ceremony. Hargrave will hold a special ceremony for NBA BAsketball star Mike Scott, who’s currently playing with the Atlanta Hawks. Scott is a member of the 2006-2007 PG Basketball team that reached the national Final Four. Scott played his collegiate basketball at the University of Virginia.

“We’re extremely excited to honor Mike Scott. He’s a tremendous player and an outstanding person. We’re very proud of what he’s accomplished on the court but also in the classroom at the University of Virginia where he graduated from,” said Coach A.W. Hamilton, Hargrave’s head postgraduate basketball coach.

In recent years, Hargrave’s PG Basketball program has generated an impressive of accomplishments, including being named program of the decade by RealGM Basketball. Current members of Hargrave’s PG Basketball Hall of Fame include: David West, Josh Howard, Joe Alexander, Kevin Keatts and Mike Gallagher.
