In an announcement yesterday, the 2018 Hargrave PG Basketball Hall-of-Fame inductee will be recently departed coach A.W. Hamilton. Hamilton amassed a 232-37 record in six years as the program’s Head Coach before becoming an Assistant Coach for fellow Hall-of-Fame member Kevin Keatts at North Carolina State University. Hamilton was twice honored as the National Coach of the Year and set a school record for wins in a season with 47 in 2016, a season where he also captured the National Championship. Hamilton started at Hargrave as a player under Kevin Keatts in the ’99-’00 season. He captained that squad and helped lead them to a 23-3 record and a #2 national ranking, earning a full basketball scholarship to Wake Forest University in the process. Hamilton finished his college career at Marshall University, where he ranks among the all-time leaders in steals and assists. He returned to Hargrave after a year as a graduate assistant at Marshall as an assistant for then-Head Coach Kevin Keatts.
Following the Hall-of-Fame ceremony, Hargrave will host it’s highly anticipated annual “midnight madness,” “Meet The Tigers.” The event will feature an introduction of the 2017-18 PG Basketball team followed by a 3-point contest, slam dunk contest and intra-squad scrimmage.
