This weekend, Walter Davis Gymnasium will be teeming with excitement for the 2019 installment of the annual First Piedmont Corp. Invitational. This year’s event features three teams garnering national recognition including two teams ranked in the Top 10 nationally. Hargrave heads into the weekend riding a seven game winning streak and find themselves currently ranked #5 nationally.

The Tigers will see some familiar foes on the other side of the bracket this weekend with long-time rival Fork Union Military Academy and perennial tournament contender Mount Zion Prep (MD). Hargrave has faced both teams this season, defeating Fork Union Military Academy on December 8th and February 1st, while the Tigers knocked off Mount Zion Prep (MD) on the first night of the Hargrave Military Circuit back on December 15th.
However, Hargrave’s opening round opponent, Washington Academy has not matched up against the Tigers this year. Hargrave faced off with Washington Academy in the 2017 Shooting For Success Classic and are eager for tomorrow night’s matchup. Head Coach, Lee Martin, said, “This is always an awesome weekend here at Hargrave. We’re so thankful that the First Piedmont Corp. is able to sponsor this event and it really brings out a lot of community support. We’ve got four really good teams going at it in our gym this weekend and it should make for an exciting couple days of hoops action. Our guys always love competing in Walter Davis Gymnasium with the Hargrave 6th Man (Corps of Cadets) behind us. They’re looking forward to playing some quality competition in front of the Chatham community and I’m thrilled for them to have this opportunity.”
In the latest Prep Circuit Post Grad Power 10, the Tigers nabbed the 5th spot. With the National Prep Championship looming, the First Piedmont Corp. Invitational is a great opportunity for Hargrave to make a push before the final seeding comes out.
