A Bold New Chapter for Hargrave Football

By Marek Piotr Stepien, OLY, MBA Head Fencing Coach, Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, Virginia

On 16 April 2026, I had the privilege of meeting with Coach Wade Green, Head Football Coach at Hargrave Military Academy, and Mr. Robert Prunty, a distinguished Hargrave alumnus and senior leader whose experience continues to strengthen the school community. As a head coach and a teacher of marketing, I found this meeting both inspiring and memorable. What I heard was more than a discussion about football. It was a clear and compelling vision for a program being built with purpose, discipline, ambition, and belief.

This article reflects that meeting, the people helping to shape the future of Hargrave Football, and the exciting direction in which the program is moving. I also had the opportunity to take several photographs, capturing what felt like a significant moment for Hargrave Military Academy and its football future.

Hargrave Football is entering an exciting new era under the leadership of Coach Wade Green. Since taking over the program, Coach Green has been actively building the team, organizing the program, and establishing a strong foundation for the future. There is already a visible sense of energy, structure, and momentum around Hargrave Football, and it is clear that a new chapter is taking shape.

Coach Green brings more than twenty years of coaching and leadership experience across college football, preparatory football, high school football, and the international game. His broad background gives Hargrave something truly valuable: a leader who understands player development, program building, and the demands of preparing young men for the next level. His approach reflects not only football knowledge but also vision, discipline, and a commitment to helping student-athletes grow both on and off the field.

What makes this moment especially important is that Coach Green is not simply maintaining a program—he is building one. He is creating standards, shaping culture, strengthening identity, and working to attract talented young athletes who want more from their football experience. Great programs are never built by accident. They are built through consistency, relationships, recruiting, and a clear sense of purpose. That is exactly what Hargrave Football is developing now.

For prospective student-athletes and their families, this matters. Hargrave offers more than football alone. It offers a serious college-preparatory environment, a disciplined daily structure, leadership development, and a culture that challenges young men to improve in every area of life. In today’s football world, many athletes are looking not only for exposure but also for genuine development. They want coaching. They want accountability. They want opportunity. Hargrave offers all three.

An equally important part of this exciting picture is the support of Mr. Robert Prunty. His name carries great respect in football circles, and his presence adds real strength to the program. Mr. Prunty brings extensive experience as a player, coach, leader, and recruiter. His background, knowledge, and understanding of how strong football programs are built make him an outstanding source of support for Hargrave.

What makes Mr. Prunty’s role especially meaningful is his connection to Hargrave itself. He is not simply an experienced football figure—he is part of the school’s story, part of its tradition, and part of its identity. That connection brings authenticity, credibility, and trust. His support of the program reflects a genuine belief in Hargrave and in what this football program can become.

Together, Coach Wade Green and Mr. Robert Prunty represent a powerful combination for the future of Hargrave Football. Coach Green brings fresh energy, vision, and the mindset of a builder. Mr. Prunty brings experience, wisdom, and a deep understanding of both football and Hargrave’s tradition. Around them stands a broader school community committed to helping young men develop as students, athletes, and leaders.

This is what makes Hargrave so attractive. It is not simply offering a place to play football—it is offering a place to grow, to be challenged, to be mentored, and to prepare for the future. It is offering a program built on standards, discipline, and opportunity. For athletes who want serious development in a structured and ambitious environment, Hargrave presents a remarkable opportunity.

What stood out most during my meeting was the sense that everyone is working together to build something meaningful. This is not the effort of one person alone. It is a shared commitment. It is a collective vision. And it is being built with care, purpose, and belief.

Hargrave Football is building.
Hargrave Football is growing.
Hargrave Football is becoming a destination for young athletes who want more from the game and more from themselves.

That is the vision. That is the opportunity. And after today’s meeting, it is clear that this new era is already underway.
