A Tale of Two Halves in JVBB Opener

Benjamin J Veshi

The Hargrave JV Basketball team opened their season last week against county opponent Tunstall High School. Despite the 46-38 loss, Head Coach Luis Zerpa, had some positive takeaways described below!

JVBB traveled to the home of the Trojans for their season opener. Under a packed crowd, the home team managed to take an early lead which climbed to double digits by the end of the first half. The boys were pressured from the start and erratic passing led to many turnovers.

Down by over 20 points by the half, the team regrouped and came out much stronger for the second half. The Tigers started pressuring more effectively and creating turnover opportunities of our own. By the end of the game, we had shrunk the lead to just 8 points. It was a great team effort with many lessons to learn moving forward.

I love the resilience shown by our young man under much adversity. They never quit and fought hard until the very end. We should all commend them for showing so much Tiger pride.

Our top scorers were Armor Marcum. Logan Rader, Michael Morino, and Joel Kayeye. Also getting in the book were Tae Barbour, Jonathan King, Frank Pacheco, Dellon Cassidy, and Jacob Hardy. Well done!
