Balanced Effort Helps Tigers Advance

Ben Veshi

In their opening round game in the 22nd Annual Toyota Classic in Georgetown, Kentucky, the Hargrave Military Academy Tigers outlasted Larue County with a final score of 65-46.

The Tigers were able to eventually wear down Larue County with a balanced effort, not only in scoring, but in minutes. Ten players for Hargrave Military Academy played between 14 and 17 minutes.

After a slow start, Hargrave began to pick up their offense and defense in the second half, which included a huge string of shots and defensive stops, which were keyed by a trio of seniors–Kameron Ivory, Nathan Hawkins, and Malik Morgan. The Tigers were able to extend their lead to double digits early in the fourth quarter and didn’t look back.

Notable Performances Include:
Kameron Ivory ’17–13 points, 4 rebounds
Tre King ’18–13 points (6-8 FG), 2 rebounds, 3 steals
Nathan Hawkins ’17–10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block
Malik Morgan ’17–4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks (Won Defensive Player of the Game)

The Tigers advance to the semifinals of the 22nd Annual Toyota Classic where they will take on Kingwood Christian Life Center Academy (Texas) with a chance to advance to the finals. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Friday, January 20th.
