Brawn to Head Hargrave’s Lacrosse Program

Hargrave Military Academy is pleased to announce the hire of Coach Matthew Brawn as the Academy’s new head lacrosse coach.

Coach Brawn joins Hargrave from Bath, Maine, were he worked directly with the Hyde School’s lacrosse program for the past two years. Brawn earned a B.A. degree in Kinesiology from New England College and an M.S. degree in Health Science and Sports Studies from California University in Pennsylvania. He played lacrosse in both high school and college.

As a college player, Brawn participated in three conference championships, and two NCAA Division III tournaments. During his career, he set a Division III record for most saves by a goalie in a single game. Additionally, he was named the defensive player of the year in 2001-2002 for New England College’s men’s Lacrosse team.

“Lacrosse has a lot of interest from the Cadets, and engages a large number of young men on campus each year,” said Col. Wheeler Baker USMC (ret.), president of Hargrave. “The school has been working very hard to locate the right person to head the program. Coach Brawn will bring a lot of lacrosse experience and coaching ability to a very hungry and motivated team.”

In addition to his head coach position, Brawn is also highly qualified to teach Hargrave’s Health course.

“We are looking forward to Coach Brawn’s leadership in the classroom and Lacrosse field,” said Baker.
