Braxton Beverly Commits to Ohio State

Braxton Beverly has announced his commitment to Ohio State University following his official visit to campus this past weekend. Braxton was committed to Miami University (OH) last fall, but re-opened his recruitment this fall and received offers from a bevy of major programs. Beverly said “When I left campus and talked about the weekend with my family, it was clear that this was the place for me. I am humbled and honored to be a Buckeye for the next four years!”

Beverly came to Hargrave prior to last season from Perry Central High School in Kentucky, where he started on the varsity team from his 8th grade year on, and where he was on track to be among the all-time leaders in career points in the state of Kentucky. He was the captain of the Hargrave 2015-16 National Championship team that set a school record with 47 wins, and recorded averages of 20.1 points, 6.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Braxton also set the all-time single game scoring record last season, previously held by Terry Rozier (Louisville/Boston Celtics), by pouring in 70 points at the Pepsi Fight Against Cancer Challenge. Coach A.W. Hamilton was emotional when talking about Braxton’s commitment:

” Braxton is without question one of the best point guards in the county. He is an elite shooter and passer, he is incredible using ball screens and has among the highest basketball IQ’s that I’ve seen at any level. With all that being said, the absolute best thing about Braxton is his character- you’re not going to find a better person than Braxton Beverly. I tell everyone that this year will be the best and saddest year of my coaching career…seeing Braxton leave Hargrave will be one of my toughest days as a coach. I wish I could coach him forever, but I’m beyond proud that he will be playing in such a great program for the next four years.”

Braxton will look to add a second National Championship ring to his collection this season, once again serving as a team captain for the country’s #1 ranked pre-season team. The Tigers kick off their season with their annual “Midnight Madness” event, “Meet the Tigers,” which takes place at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 13th. The first regular-season game will be on October 28th at 7:00pm in Walter Davis Gymnasium.
