Braxton Beverly Signs with N.C. State

Braxton Beverly announced his commitment to North Carolina State today. Even in a program as storied as Hargrave- named program of the decade by RealGM Basketball, has featured 23 NBA players since 1999 and has had 111 Division 1 signees in the past decade- Beverly will go down as one of the all-time greats.

Braxton was a two-year captain for the postgraduate team and led his teams to a staggering two-year record of 90-3. He led Hargrave to back-to-back Final Four appearances, with the 2015-16 run culminating in Hargrave’s third National Prep Championship.

Beverly was also on the forefront of a number of school records during his career. He led Hargrave to a school record 47 wins in the 2015-16 season as well as the single game team scoring record, a whopping 163 points, in February of the 2016-17 season. Throughout his career, the Beverly-led Tigers averaged a nearly 40 point per game margin of victory.

Braxton’s most notable feats, however, may lie in his individual records. In the 2016 Hargrave-Chatham Hall Cancer Awareness Game, Braxton poured in a school-record 70 points, including 13 three-pointers made. His scoring tally bested the previous school record of 69, which was set by former Louisville Cardinal and current Boston Celtic, Terry Rozier. This performance, in front of a sold-out pink-out crowd in Walter Davis Gymnasium, was picked up by major news outlets across the country and videos of the game went immediately viral. While the 70 point game served as a high-water mark for his career, Braxton also established himself as a consistent scoring threat each and every time he stepped on the court. Braxton eclipsed the prestigious 1,500 point mark- a rare feat in prep basketball- during the Rudy Lane Classic in January of 2017. He went on to finish his career with a massive 1,826 point tally, good for a two-year average of 20.3 points per game. True to form, Beverly also finished his career with one of the highest assist totals in school history as well, averaging 7.1 assists across his two seasons.

Braxton also finished his Hargrave career with a spotless 4.0 GPA and was a pillar of the Chatham community during his time at Hargrave. Beverly chose NC State over a laundry list of other high-major programs vying for his services. Beverly will report to Raleigh immediately and will look to help bring the Wolfpack back to the top of the ACC for years to come.
