Buzzer Beater scores upset victory for Tigers!

Coach Joe Moran

If you missed the JV Basketball game last night against Chatham High School, you may have missed one of the most exciting games of the year. Hargrave beat Chatham 48-47 in a memorable conclusion.

Despite missing our leading scorer for the year, the JV team played their best game to date.  Both teams were evenly matched and the score would prove that out.  Hargrave had a slim one point lead at the half and jumped out to a five point lead in the third quarter.

Chatham never quit and cut the lead to one point with 30 seconds remaining and possession of the ball. Hargrave’s defense stood firm through a couple of missed shots, and a few balls knocked out of bounds until Chatham had to get the ball inbounds with :08 seconds remaining and Hargrave still clinging to a one point lead.  Chatham executed their out of bounds play, scored a basket and had a free throw to follow because of a foul on Cadet Posley for Hargrave. After Chatham earned the free throw, Cadet Posley would get one last shot to redeem himself, and boy did he ever.  One more play was drawn in the timeout huddle, and the Tigers came out an executed to perfection. Cadet Posley took the inbounds pass, dribbled three times and launched a shot from just inside half court that hit nothing but net for the game winning three pointer.

Much screaming and jumping ensued in the celebration. Cadet Posley led the Tigers in scoring with a season high 24 points. Cadet Jacobs also had a season high 15 points on the night. Cadet Franzoni once again dominated the glass with double digit rebounds. Cadet Inge, Wall and Caviness provided great defensive pressure, especially during the final minute of play.
