Cadets compete at East Coast Open Water Championships

Taylor, White and WrightHargrave Military Academy Cadets swimming for their club team, Hargrave Aquatics, participated in the Dolphin East Coast Open Water Championships September 20-21, 2014. The event offered three courses which included a 5K Open Water race, a one mile Open Water race and a half mile race for competitors aged 9 and under. Three Hargrave Cadets participated in the one mile race on Sunday.

Cadet Thomas Taylor, age 16, swam the fastest of the Hargrave team. His open water time of 28:40.30 placed him 10th overall in the Men’s 16-19 age division. His parents are Stephen and Robin Taylor of Berea, Kentucky.

Cadet Douglas Wright, age 18, also competed in the Men’s 16-19 age division. His time of 39:01.23 placed him 11th overall in his age division. His parents are Craig and Susan Wright of Raleigh, North Carolina.

In the Boy’s 12-13 age division, Cadet Kevin White placed 9th overall in the one mile race. He finished with a time of 29:26.02. His parents are Jesse and Alla White of Beijing, China.

Hargrave Aquatics’ Coach John Eife, age 56, of Chatham also competed during the two day event. He participated in the Men’s 50 and over 5K Open Water swim on Saturday. Eife claimed third place with a time of 1:36.14.34. On Sunday, Eife claimed first in the Men’s 50 and over one mile race. His time was 30:35.12.
