Campus visits transform the decision-making process. Hargrave looks different on paper than in person. Visiting allows your family to experience the atmosphere, meet cadets and faculty, see facilities, and determine fit. Here’s how to maximize your visit.
Visit options include Personal Tours (Monday-Friday) with individualized attention, Open Houses (weekdays and Saturdays) with group tours and Q&A, Cadet Shadow Days (monthly Wednesdays) with class attendance and military training, and Tag-Along Open Houses with obstacle courses and activities.
Schedule your visit by contacting admissions at 866-994-4582 or admissions@hargrave.edu. Provide preferred dates, number attending, specific interests or questions, and whether your son will attend. Early scheduling ensures availability, especially during peak admission season.
Before visiting, research Hargrave’s website, prepare questions, review Four Pillars of Leadership, understand military structure basics, and know academic programs offered.
During your visit, observe morning formation to see military structure, sit in an academic class to experience teaching, tour barracks to see living conditions, visit dining hall during a meal, watch athletic practice or game, attend chapel if timing allows, meet with admissions counselor, talk informally with cadets and faculty, explore campus facilities, and feel the overall atmosphere.
Questions to ask cadets include: Why did you choose Hargrave? What has been your biggest challenge? How has Hargrave changed you? What do you wish you had known before arriving? What will you miss most after graduation?
Questions for faculty include: How do you support struggling students? What makes Hargrave academics different? How does military structure benefit students? What college preparation do you provide? How do you communicate with families?
After your visit, debrief as a family about impressions, compare notes, discuss concerns, evaluate fit with your son’s needs, and determine next steps.
