Hargrave Military Academy Cadet Dionisio Carey, age 16, won the LC 100m Backstroke during the RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) National Swimming Championships June 19 -22, 2014 at the Betty Kelly-Kenning Aquatic Centre in Nassau, Bahamas. His win and final time qualified him for the Bahamas’ Youth Olympic Games this summer.
“Sio’s hard work and intense competitive spirit is paying off,” Hargrave Head Swimming Coach John Eife said. “I know his goal all year was to qualify for the Youth Olympics and his swim at RBC Nationals made the cut. I’m very happy for him personally and that he will be able to represent his country at that prestigious event. Everyone here at Hargrave is very proud and will be cheering him on.”
Carey dominated the Boys 15 and over 100m Backstroke in the championships, winning with at 1:03.27. He defeated second place Christopher Johnson’s 1:05.06 by almost two seconds.
During the school year, Carey is a Cadet at Hargrave Military Academy. He attends school and trains with the Academy’s swimming program.
