Carson Heinen has ended his recruitment and will continue his basketball career at Mercer University in Macon, GA next season. Heinen came to Hargrave after a storied career at North Hall in Georgia where he is among the school’s all-time leaders in points, rebounds and steals. Heinen worked tirelessly on the court and in the classroom this season to achieve his goal of playing Division 1 basketball.
“Carson came to us as a combo guard and left a true point guard. He was matching up every day and competing with guards that were going to Ohio State and West Virginia. There’s no doubt in my mind that he can compete at this level, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for him. Mercer got a good player and a great young man, ” commented Head Coach A.W. Hamilton
Heinen not only improved his skills on the court during his time at Hargrave- he also improved in the classroom. The result of this effort was a massive leap of over 400 points on the SAT, putting him among the top 3.5% nationally. He chose Mercer over a number of other NCAA D-2 and D1 NAIA schools that were recruiting him to test himself at the Division 1 level and also remain close to home.
