Catch’ Up with Coach: Jeremy Eubank, Varsity Soccer

Heading into Hargrave’s Varsity Soccer match against Covenant School on Friday, we had a chance to catch up with Coach Eubank. Coach Eubank’s remarks about Senior Day, the Covenant match, and the home stretch of the season can be found below.

Coach, you guys picked up a big win on Senior Day last Friday against Holy Cross. How did it feel sending your Senior class out with a win after what’s been an up and down season to this point?
Eubank: “It was great for team morale overall. The Seniors were extremely appreciative for everything that went into making this day a success. Being able to start 11 Seniors was an awesome feeling and I know that our guys enjoyed taking the pitch together, earning the victory was that much sweeter.”

After a schedule change, your upcoming match against Oak Hill Academy has been canceled but that also opened up an opportunity to play the Covenant match (rescheduled from 10/16) on Friday. Heading into the final stretch of VIC play, what are your thoughts heading into the Covenant match?
Eubank: “I feel that we have put together some strong performances this season. Truthfully, we’ve had six games that could have easily shifted our record. 4 losses came by one goal in the final minutes and we had two ties that came down to the wire. In all those games, we put together a good gameplan and I feel the same way heading into the Covenant match. If we can execute like we have been, we’ll be in the match at the end of the day.”

Lastly, with the aforementioned eleven seniors, you also have a good mix of underclassmen. As the final weeks of the season are upon us, what kind of growth are you hoping to see from your group as we wrap up the month of October?
Eubank:  “Each day we start practice with a technical base session. From the start of the season up to this point, we as coaches have seen that growth daily. These underclassmen have stepped up and they understand that they will be counted on as we move through the end of the season and into the offseason. I would like to see them continue their growth through the final three weeks of the season as we finish up with a rivalry game against Fork Union (on 10/29).”

The Tigers face off against Covenant School on Friday, October 18th. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM from Simpson Parade Field.
