As the 2024 football season comes to a close, we celebrate the grit, commitment, and unforgettable achievements of Hargrave’s senior football players. Each of these remarkable young men has left an indelible mark on our team, whether through leadership on the field, resilience during tough games, or unwavering support for their teammates.
Each senior has contributed uniquely to the legacy of Hargrave football:
- Malachi Dixon (#1), a two-time captain, has spent six years with the program, becoming a pillar of leadership and responsibility. His passion for the sport is rivaled only by his dedication to his teammates. Malachi plans to study business, continue playing college football, and hopefully achieve his goal of reaching the NFL and working in real estate.
- Shawn Dunkle (#55) has shown remarkable growth as both an offensive and defensive tackle. His determination and work ethic during the off-season have paid off in a fantastic senior season. Shawn is excited to begin his studies in business and finance at the University of Alabama.
- Zach Gross (#23), known for his strength and personal growth, has excelled as a wide receiver and defensive back. He has been a valued member of the team this season, and we look forward to seeing him continue his journey at North Carolina A&T.
- Josh McGrail (#71) has been a vital part of our program over three years. Despite his personal interest in playing running back, Josh put the team first, thriving on the offensive line. His hard work has set a high standard for others and has greatly shaped the culture of our football program. Josh dreams of becoming a Naval Aviator and eventually an astronaut.
- Alex Moore (#21) has been a steadfast team manager, stepping up to support his teammates even when he decided to no longer play. His dedication, discipline, and drive have served as a cornerstone for our team’s success, and he plans to enlist in the Air Force to continue serving others.
- Jackson Pino (#11), a first-year team member, has shown impressive versatility, taking on roles as wide receiver, tight end, middle linebacker, and kicker. His natural leadership and positivity led to his election as team captain—a testament to his dedication. Jackson aims to continue his studies and pursue a career as a pilot, with his sights set on the Air Force Academy or Marshall University.
- Grady Upchurch (#12), who joined as a tight end, has grown significantly as an athlete. Though baseball remains his first love, Grady embraced football with heart, enriching his high school experience with memories and achievements both he and his coaches will always cherish. He looks forward to pursuing a business degree at a four-year college.
- Kupa “Z” Zvandaziva (#6) brought a rugby background to the linebacker position and quickly adapted to excel in football. His hard work in the weight room and on the field led to a standout senior year, and he’s eager to play college football.
From the coaching staff, heartfelt thanks go out to each player for their unwavering support, dedication, and resilience. The achievements this season are a testament to the shared commitment to excellence, instilling values of respect, discipline, and resilience within the Hargrave football program. This journey has been one of growth and pride for everyone involved, and it is through the spirit of teamwork and dedication that this program continues to thrive.
To our senior players, congratulations on your accomplishments, and may you carry the lessons learned here into all your future endeavors. We are immensely proud of you and will be cheering you on every step of the way.
With gratitude,
